The sport is played in a marked rectangular court with a basket-like rim on each width ends. The internal diameter of the basket-like rim measures eighteen inches and is placed ten feet above the level of ground. In a regular.

Play, the teams earns points by shooting the ball through the basket-like rim. Every score earns two points if the player scores from close range or is in conduct with the rim. However, if the player shoots the ball through the rim while behind the three pointer line, the score earns three points. The team that scores more points in a competition is considered as the winning team.

Development of Basketball

Basketball was invented in 1891 by an international YMCA training school physical-education instructor, James A. Naismith. Naismith wanted to keep his students busy during the winter and thus wanted to develop a sport which could be played indoor during the winter. Naismith developed the present basketball and generated thirteen rules for the sport.

The first basketball game was played by the physical education class of Naismith in 1891. Since class had eighteen men, each team involved nine players. The teams used a soccer ball in the game. Despite much shooting attempts and running, the players managed to score a single basket in the entire game.

Basketball Rules

Basketball involves various rules which leads to fouls when violated. For instance, physical disruptive contact or individual results to a foul which is penalized by awarding the opponent player a free throw in if the foul is committed when the player was shooting. Specific violations of the rules like unsportsmanlike conduct are penalized through issuing a technical assessment of the foul against players, team or personnel.

Technical fouls give the opponents a free throw in. The ball should be within the court during a regular play. When a team sends the ball out, the team loses possession to the opponent. The ball is referred to be out of court when it sprints across the borderline or come in to contact with a player who is outside the playing court. This makes basketball different from other sports like tennis, soccer or volleyball whereby the player is considered to be inside the court if any of his/her part is in touch with the borderline.
